The paper on the cutting matt shows many different variations of the Double Four Patch block.
All the blocks start with triangles of the background color and one of the other fabrics for your quilt joined to make make small squares.
The triangles that are cut to the side of the paper will make 2 Double Four Patch blocks.

Since this block starts with one background triangle sewn to one color triangle you can simply start by sewing all the background triangles to a colored triangle.

You will end up with squares like these. The top and bottom pictures here are for two different blocks...I don't want to confuse you.
After you have these squares assembled you can then lay them out in the block design of your choice.
