If you want to have one continuous strip of binding then you can do this method.
The corners will not be as square.
Start at the bottom picture in this post.
I don't typically pin using this method because I want to make sure when I get to the corners everything is loose and I can adjust the binding and quilt as needed.
If you choose not to pin ...
MAKE SURE THAT ALL LAYERS OF YOUR QUILT ARE FEEDING INTO THE 1/4 INCH SEAM ALLOWANCE AND THAT YOUR NOT LOOSING YOUR BOTTOM LAYER OF FABRIC.
Continue around your quilt using the same process at each corner.
When you get back to the point where you started, sew the binding on top of the start of the binding by about 1/2 inch and then trim away any excess binding.
You will have some binding that needs carefully folded over, towards the left, so it won't get caught as you sew along this new edge.
Lift your presser foot and turn your quilt first.
Line it up so it's ready for you to sew straight ahead.
Start down the first side and stop when you are 1/4 inch away from the second edge of the quilt.
Leave your needle down in the fabric!
Fold the strip in half lengthwise and press.
Start pinning and sewing your binding in the middle of one edge of the quilt.
Don't start on a corner.
The raw edges of the binding are even with the raw edges of the quilt.
The binding that is placed down first needs to be folded over about 1/4 inch so when you go completely round the quilt top you will have a finished edge.
This starting point will also be the finishing point.
At the end you will sew the binding over the point you started at by about 1/2 inch and trim away any leftover binding there.
The raw edge is folded over so it's on the top...I can see it.
I am using a bias strip for this demo.
