Binding the Quilt: Four Separate Binding Pieces

This Binding Method Uses four separate pieces of binding for the edge of the quilt. The ends turn out really square and crisp looking.
This is also a "double" binding method. Meaning your binding will be two pieces of fabric. This makes a stronger binding.
You can use a straight cut binding or a bias cut binding to do this method.
Now... Go to the bottom picture in this post.

This picture shows why it's important to use the even feed foot. After only about two to three inches there is already a lot of binding fabric being pushed backwards!
I had to take my pins out and ended up trimming some binding away on the end.
You can imagine how this would be on an entire quilt top!
With an even-feed foot sew the binding in place with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Pin the binding strip to the edge of the back or front of your quilt.
This is according to your preference.
I usually sew it to the back and fold it around to the front.
Trim off any excess.

Fold the two inch strip in half lengthwise and press.

Cut a two inch strip of fabric. If the edge of your quilt measures longer than your fabric then sew some two inch strips together until you have it long enough.
(See my post about sewing binding strips together).
