Card Tricks Assembly Part 3

Assemble the triangles in each row to make the nine 4 inch squares. Sew the squares together to form 3 rows. Sorry I did not get a picture of the squares before they were sewn into rows. You saw me demo it.
Sew the rows together.
Make sure the squares in the rows are pinned so the row is straight when sewn.

Remember the seams on top of each other as you pin! Ease in any extra fabric.
When all the rows are complete and sewn together you should end up with a block with nice points.

Car Tricks Assembly Part 2

This shows the three squares in the left row already assembled.
The center square in cards tricks needs to be lined up well where the four different fabrics all meet. When you pin these two triangles together make sure one seam is exactly over the one underneath it.

Once all the squares in the row are assembled, then start sewing the three rows together. Remember to pin carefully and sew accurately, especially where any seam is pinned to another seam. Line the seams up well as you pin and you will get nice points.

Assemble each row and then sew the rows together.

Check to make sure your points are sharp as you press after each part is sewn together. If you are not happy with one of the points not looking nice, then pick it out.

Card Tricks Assembly Part 1

The basic Card Tricks Block is cut using 2 templates. They are 1/2 and 1/4 of a 4 inch square. You will pick four colored fabrics to use in this block. For each color you need to cut two of each size of triangle. The background fabric gets four cut of the two triangle sizes.

Make sure to mark and cut the fabric according the the grain guidelines given you when you made your templates in class.

If you are using a plaid or striped fabric in this block be sure to line your patterns up well when you are marking and cutting your fabric. Remember the 1/4 inch seam allowance will not be shown. Once all the fabric is cut lay the block out next to your machine.
Next you need to sew the 1/4 of the 4 inch square triangles together. Be sure to pin them and press them open when done. Lay them back in place after pressing. Now stand back and make sure everything is in it's proper place. Once the smaller triangles are assembled and in place start pinning all trianlges together. You will now join these to create 9 four inch squares. You can work one set of triangles at a time or in rows placing each row back in order as you go. Or do the entire blocks triangles at once if you know how to lay them out again.
