Tumbling Blocks, A Play on Color

It doesn't take much fabric to try out a different color in the blocks.
I decided against the red check from the first picture...it distracted too much from what I wanted to do. My greens are almost identical on purpose... I thought it added to a staircase effect.
Then I turned the colors and loved the way the red looked like it was falling.
These bottom two pictures show the same tumbling blocks assembly...just turned to put a different color on the top.
Amazing what turning the blocks around does to the 3D effect when you look at them.

Color/Value examination time

It is time to evaluate the colors and values you have used so far in your blocks. Lay them out and get above them. Take a picture and look at the picture!!!!! See if you have a good balance of colors and values. I even put part of a block in I was not done with to give me an idea of what the quilt would look like with another block of that color. Because I am making a queen size quilt I have more blocks than most of you do. You can lay the blocks out on top of the fabric you will use for sashing to see how they look surrounded by that fabric/color/value. See if there are any colors that you are not using enough of. Are there any fabrics you should leave out of the next few blocks to balance things better? Are there combinations of fabrics that frequently get used together...do you want to switch some of those around a bit?

IF YOU DON'T HAVE A PLACE TO DO THIS IN YOUR HOUSE YOU CAN BRING THEM TO CLASS AND BRING YOUR CAMERA. I HAVE A GREAT VIEW FROM THE FLOOR ABOVE THE BASEMENT.
